Blue Lagoon, 15 Aug - 91 degree bath water, viz 15 feet most places, a little lower in a few spots that had been stirred up.

It was a beautiful day to be hanging out and diving. It was great seeing everyone who came out. Thanks to Earl Grey for organizing it.

I uploaded a few pics to the Gallery.

Mammoth Lake, 27 Sep - Viz was low low low since it was a grey drizzly day above the water. Water temp was 81 degrees.

The find of the day though was the Wayside Pub in Lake Jackson. The fried rueben balls were a tasty appetizer and the milk stout was delicious. :beer Definitely worth checking out next time you're down there.

Twin Lakes, 8 Oct. 41' dive, 32 mins. Not sure I've ever been that deep at Twin Lakes before. 73 degrees at depth.

Hard to imagine, but there's a really dark murk layer at the top of the lake because of Harvey-related churning. Below 10' it's pitch black. I was really glad Richard mentioned bringing dive lights because that was the only way he and I had any chance of finding each other underwater. Viz at depth was about 5'.

Although this is 2nd hand information from a dive friend of ours, I thought I would pass along the current conditions at The Scuba Ranch (formerly Clear Springs Scuba Park under new management as of May 2018)

"The Scuba Ranch" (formerly Clear Springs Scuba Park) - Terrell, TX

"They are putting in a lot of work here. It is a nice spot. I enjoy the turtles and perch. There is a flight simulator underwater that is larger than our school bus- and a few nice sized cabin cruisers. 51 degrees at the bottom (64 feet). 81 at the surface. Thermocline at about 30ft. Vis 5-7 in places - up to 15-20 in others. (Open Water Students) Silty bottom. Good times!"

That is where I got certified! Would love to go back sometime!

Went to 288 today with ScubaKitty and Jpipies this morning and conditions were about the same. Got 3 dives in though. Saw a few fish, but no schools this time.

Thanks go out to Diving Doug for rolling with the punches yesterday! The weather gods were trying to throw a wrench in our diving plans, but we were more determined than they were. Found out that 288 Lake had closed due to weather about 10 minutes before Doug was to arrive there. We redirected to Longhorn and managed to get in a couple of late afternoon dives, even if we did have to gear up and break down in a light drizzle.

Since there was zero sunshine, viz was only about 4', but the nav lines in the lake made it easy to still find plenty to look at. Water temp was mid 80's all the way to the bottom. Doug found some fish nesting almost right under the dock, which probably explains why I had a rabid bluegill nip at my arm as I was taking off my fins. Those little swamp chihuahuas are way more aggressive than any shark I've ever encountered, I'll tell ya that.

Is Twin Lakes still open to diving? Any conditions if so?

thanks!
Martin

Hopefully, someone can give you more current info, but...

I went there last summer (over a year ago). I went to dive but changed my mind & just rented a kayak instead. The owner said they rarely have divers there. As best I could tell from the kayak, viz was 5 ft or less.
