Hi all!
I'm new to CHUM. It was introduced to me by Sharknado, Nicole, rakpix & Heidi Ho when we met in Sea Center Texas on Saturday, June 25, during "Get Into Your Sanctuary" day. Although I've been living in Houston area for more than 34 years and SCUBA diving for more than 11 years, it was embarrassing to admit that it was my first time to hear about CHUM.
Most my diving buddies are from Brazosport Underwater Club (BUC) in Lake Jackson area, where I live & where the Sea Center Texas is located. In fact BUC meets on 2nd Wednesday of every months in the Sea Center Texas' conference room. Although BUC is a small dive club, we have every thing we need as far as SCUBA diving world. We have pretty active members who organize trips, set up monthly meetings, write monthly newsletters, etc. We have local dive site, the Mammoth Lake & local dive shop, the Maximum Scuba. To dive in the sea, the Fling is only 15 minutes drive away to Freeport harbor. So, I never bother searching other dive club.
After browsing the CHUM website & reading some of the discussions in your Forums, I'm impressed with the organization, diversities, expertise & enthusiasms of many of the CHUM club members. I felt like a man, living under a rock, just came out to see the world. So, I went ahead & signed up as a new CHUM member.
I'm from Indonesia. Hopefully I can also contribute & help to provide some advises to CHUM members who are interested in diving in Indonesia. Is there any other CHUM member from Indonesia?
Here is a bit of my diving background. In 2005, a good buddy of mine at work, who is a dive instructor, introduced me to SCUBA diving. I liked it so much & got SSI OW in 2005, followed by SSI Nitrox in 2006, PADI AOW in 2013 and logging in average 50 dives / year.
For the first few years, I went with BUC dive trips to several dive sites in US & Caribbean, including Flower Gardens, Florida Keys, Cayman Brac, Cancun, Cabo, Bonaire, Utila & Tobago. As I gained more experience, I started to travel further away to the country where I was born, Indonesia, diving in several great dive sites there including Bali, Komodo, WaKaToBi, Bunaken, Lembeh, Alor, Nabucco, Cendrawasih Bay & Raja Ampat.
I dove in Zanzibar & Pemba (Tanzania side) a couple years ago, but not too impressed. I guess I got spoiled with diving in Indonesia.
I plan to dive in Great Barrier Reef in November & in Galapagos in December. I'll see how they are compared with Indonesia.
